Summer is the Season for School HVAC Projects

June 27, 2012 by Lisa

Summer is the time of year that the Building Maintenance and Groundskeepers in school systems go full force ahead! Completing building projects and mechanical upgrades, such as hiring heating and ventilation professional to do the installation of new HVAC Systems, are usually best done when students and staff are out staying cool on summer vacation.  Chappell Central is working on some exciting projects right now that we will share soon.  Here are some of the notable school HVAC projects from last summer!

Sumner Elementary School – Austin, MN

I & S Group were the design profesionals on this project. Unable to begin work until school was out, this was another challenging summer project. The project consisted of a new HVAC system including: 27,000 pounds of duct work, air handlers, VAV boxes, and DDC controls. Working with I & S and the other contractors this job had to be completed in three months before school began…and it was.

Neveln Elementary School – Austin, MN

Again working with I & S Group, we had the sister school to Sumner Elementary to complete last summer. JD Driver was the general contractor and had the challenging job of bringing this project in on time. As with Sunmer Elementary, Neveln was a mechanical upgrade of similar size and scope with the same result of being ready for the kids to get back to their studies on time.

Gatewood Elementary – Minnetonka, MN

With Energy Service Group acting as a construction manager this project had a very aggressive timeline for completion. In addition, this was a mechanical upgrade to an existing building which meant working around existing facilities and added to the challenging timeline. With everyone working together all necessary tasks were accomplished before the school year began. The mechanical systems included: packaged rooftop units, air handlers, displacement units, chilled beams and new chiller plant.

In our own hometown of Willmar, MN, we faced an impending deadline for multiple school upgrades that included unit ventilators, roof top units and kitchen ventilation. Despite equipment delivery issues, we did finish the job by the skin of our chinney, chin, chin.
